A Stunning Development…

Hold on to your hats; here is some really good news about the Port Orford Community Centerproject—the City was awarded a $1.5 million federal Community Development Block Grant tobe used solely to renovate our Community Building! Mayor Pat Cox said, “This was a wonderful Christmas gift to Port Orford and will be a big boost for our community.” The local Community Center Fundraising Committee members are ready to get back to work, raising the additional monies needed to link the Center and American Legion Hall and make long overdue upgrades to the Hall. 2021 Raffle Winner

It is fitting that long-time community member Thelma Belcher won the beautiful quilt titled “Pillars of our Community.”  The raffle raised funds to help renovate the Port Orford Community Complex.  Another lucky winner was Joyce Hodge who won the second quilt raffle—a symphony of blues titled “Stack and Whack.” Special thanks to master quilter Vicki Young who is a member of the Community Center Complex committee.  Also – special thanks to the winner of this same quilt in 2018 who donated it back to allow the quilt to raise even more money toward the effort.

Coming soon—Fun for the Whole Family

Be on the lookout for a new date (original 9/4/21 date postponed due to COVID) so you won’t miss Family Fun at Buffington Park. This day of golf, games, food, and music is put on by the Port Orford Community Center Fund Raising Committee and the Port Orford Rotary Club. The fun starts at 11 am when the first group tees off at the putt-putt golf tourney. Just $25 to enter and that includes grilled hamburger lunch with chips and cookies.  This course is so tough you might win a prize just for finishing. The lunch will be available to …

Going Up

This charming Money Meter painted by Karen Auborn is on it’s way up to the $1.5 million we need to create the new Port Orford Community Center Complex. Thanks to many generous donations, we are nearly at the $100,000 mark.  Once we are all on the other side of this virus crisis, we will begin fund raising again, starting with Gong Night, where America’s Got Talent meets the old Gong Show. We have some wonderful and wacky talent all lined up. We’ll keep you posted.

2019 & 2021 Raffle Fundraiser

This beautiful quilt which was created by Vicki Young and quilted by Kim Gillett of Crescent City and donated by Quilter’s Corner; was raffled with all proceeds going to the remodel of the Port Orford Community Building. The pattern has been named “Pillars of Our Community” The drawing was held during the Community Christmas Bazaar in December 2019. The proud winner donated the quilt to the quilt maker with thanks for her creativity and hard fundraising work. This quilt was again raffled off in 2021.
